My Bionic Quest for Boléro
Here's the Wired article I mentioned in class today in response to Mike's really cool presentation on cochlear implants: My Bionic Quest for Boléro.
Cochlear implants are really quite amazing... whatever you think of their sociocultural ramifications, the fact that we have developed basically an A/D converter for our auditory systems is pretty damn cool... I've also read that current research is looking into using Bluetooth with cochlear implants to split the processor and the part that conveys the signals to the brain as well as to provide easier cell phone usage for CI wearers (I read it in an AES journal a while back).
